We pull cabling for IP cameras and terminate in the patch cabinet. Balanced runs, PoE-ready and neatly labeled. Security companies and MSPs handle camera connection and configuration. This creates a clear separation between infrastructure (us) and setup (MSP/security).

PoE classes and the 100-metre limit

PoE works over a maximum of 100 metres of UTP. That is not a guideline but a hard limit from the standard: beyond it the power drops away and the link becomes unreliable. We keep every camera run under those 100 metres, so no PoE extender or booster is needed. If a camera does not fit within that distance, we move the connection point or run the cable to a switch position closer by.

Which PoE class you need depends on the camera. A fixed IP camera usually manages on 802.3af (15.4W) or 802.3at PoE+ (30W). PTZ cameras with a motor and heater, and multi-sensor units, call for 802.3bt PoE++ up to 60W. For those heavier classes and for long runs we install Cat6A; for standard cameras at short distance Cat6 is plenty. We record the PoE class per camera in the cable plan, along with the location and the connection point number.

For outdoor cameras we use outdoor-rated, UV-resistant cable, or we take the run outside through protected trunking. We allow for a watertight entry and for earthing. The routing runs along the ceiling, the facade or through trunking, finished to suit the surroundings.

We install the infrastructure up to the patch cabinet or the NVR rack. The security installer mounts the cameras and configures the system. Want the camera circuits kept separate from the data circuits in the cabinet? That is possible, we reserve a dedicated panel row for them. Planning and coordination run through you as the client or MSP.

Which cable do you use for IP cameras?

For IP cameras we use Cat6 U/UTP as a minimum. It is suitable for PoE, delivers plenty of bandwidth and works up to 100 metres per run. For heavier PoE or longer distances we recommend Cat6A.

What is PoE camera cabling?

PoE (Power over Ethernet) means the camera gets both data and power over the same UTP cable. There is no need for a separate power lead or a socket next to the camera.

Do you also install CCTV/security camera cabling?

Yes. We install cabling for IP cameras and CCTV/security camera systems: we pull the camera cable, fit the connection points and hand over neatly up to the patch cabinet. Mounting and configuring the cameras is done by your security installer.

Can one UTP cable carry camera and power?

Yes, with PoE a single UTP cable carries both the camera image and the power. That saves a separate power cable and makes the installation simpler and cheaper.
